R K Sharma's daughter approaches NHRC again

Komal Sharma, elder daughter of senior Indian Police Service officer and prime accused in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case R K Sharma, on Tuesday approached the National Human Rights Commission with a fresh petition seeking "protection" for herself, her mother and sister.

The petition follows rejection earlier by the NHRC of a plea made by Madhu Sharma, R K Sharma's wife, seeking protection for the "entire family", including her fugitive husband.

"This time we have been very specific. I have faxed a complaint to the NHRC mentioning seven to eight incidents of violation of our civil liberties," Komal told PTI.

"I will request the commission for an appointment on Wednesday," Komal said.

NHRC had rejected the earlier petition filed by Komal's mother on the ground that it sought protection for an accused in a murder case. However, the commission had asked her to file an additional petition on the human rights violation of the rest of the family.

Meanwhile, a Delhi police team raided a house in the Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar, the capital of Orissa, looking for Sharma a couple of days back.

The team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police K Singh, raided the residence of a senior central government officer with the assistance of the local police.
