Shivani case: R K Sharma removed from post

Senior Indian Police Service officer Ravi Kant Sharma, prime suspect in journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, has been removed from his post of Haryana's Inspector General of Police (Prisons), official sources said in Delhi on Wednesday.

Sharma, belonging to the Haryana cadre, was removed as he has been abstaining from work without any intimation to the authorities for the past three days since Monday, when he was required to report for duty at the end of his 10 days' leave, the sources said.

Laik Ram, Deputy Inspector General, Haryana Armed Police, Madhuban (Karnal) has been posted as DIG (Prisons), Haryana, in place of Sharma. The sources said that till further action, it has been decided to post a DIG level officer to the post held by Sharma.

The posting orders of Sharma were not issued and his next posting depends on the development in the Shivani Bhatnagar case due to which he has remained inaccessible since August 3, the sources added.

A non-bailable warrant has been issued against Sharma, who has remained elusive. His anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a Delhi court on Tuesday. Earlier on Saturday, a local Panchkula had rejected the bail plea of Sharma.
