Flood waters submerge paddy fields in Manipur

Incessant rains in the last week have flooded several rivers and submerged paddy fields in Thoubal district and the eastern parts of Imphal district in Manipur, but no casualties were reported, official sources said on Tuesday.

The Angtha, Poirou and Thoubal Kshetri Leikai paddy fields in the Thoubal district were submerged under the waters of the River Thoubal, the source said.

Parts of the Heirok and Wangjing areas were also submerged as the Heirok and the Wangjing overflowed their banks.

In eastern Imphal district, the Napet Palli and Telou paddy field areas were flooded by the Imphal, which is flowing close to the danger mark, the sources said.

The River Nambul in the same district was also flowing above the danger mark, they said.

There were no reports of any breach in embankments, but precautionary measures have been taken to strengthen the weak ones.
