Bihar police sends team to arrest makers of 'offending' serial

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The Bihar police have sent a team to Mumbai to arrest the producer, director, actor and actress of the controversial TV serial Ramkhilavan CM and Family following a non-bailable arrest warrant issued by a Patna court.

According to police sources, a police team left Thursday night for Mumbai to arrest eight people associated with the TV serial, which has raised the hackles of the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav.

The accused people are Adhikari Brothers Television Network Limited chairman-cum-managing director Gautam Adhikari, vice-chairman Markandey Adhikari, chief public relation officer Vishesh Verma, serial's director Vijay Acharya, producer Ashiwini Dhir, actors Vinit Narayan and Sanjay Mishra and actress Sushmita Mukherjee.

The TV serial is said to be a spoof on the RJD chief and his wife Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi.

Earlier, the RJD chief had threatened to 'jail' the makers of the TV serial, charging the serial was aimed at defaming him and his family.

A complaint registered at Patna's Kotwali police station charged the makers of the serial with hatching a conspiracy to tarnish the image of Bihar and the family of the chief minister.

Police sources said the case was lodged on Wednesday on the basis of a statement made by one Sunil Kumar Singh.

The case has been registered under Sections 153A, 292, 509, 87, 501, 502, 504 and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code.

Laloo said he would hold talks with his lawyers to file a defamation suit against the makers of the serial. "Otherwise, they should give a proof that the serial is not made on me and my family," he said.
