R K Sharma's bail application rejected

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

The Delhi police on Tuesday got a shot in the arm when the anticipatory bail plea of Ravi Kant Sharma, Inspector General (prisons) Haryana was rejected by Additional Sessions Judge (Panchkula) H S Bangu.

The Delhi police has been claiming that Sharma, prime suspect in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, is untraceable ever since a few arrested persons revealed details of his involvement in the murder of the Indian Express reporter.

The Delhi police has been on the lookout for Sharma and even raided a number of places, including his residence in Panchkula (near Chandigarh), looking for him.

However, they were in for a surprise when a national daily on Tuesday reported that Sharma had attended a party in the capital on Monday night.

R K Sharma's advocate Ravi Sharma has pleaded ignorance of his client's whereabouts.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home Affairs I D Swami, on Monday, dismissed rumours of political pressure to hush up the case.

On the other hand, Ravi Sharma alleged that his client is being framed in order to protect some very influential persons, though he refused to divulge details.

Meanwhile, the Haryana government has cancelled R K Sharma's leave and directed him to appear before the Delhi police and join the investigation in the Shivani Bhatnagar case.

The Director General of Police (Haryana) has issued instructions to the Senior Superintendent of Police of Panchkula to trace R K Sharma following a request by the Delhi police, sources said.

An officer of the 1976 batch, Sharma was briefly posted in Mumbai as Director (vigilance) before returning to his parent cadre.
