The overall flood situation in Assam on Saturday improved considerably with the water level of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries further receding, official sources said in Guwahati.
But rail and road communication remained suspended in several districts, the sources said.
The current wave of flood has so far claimed 30 lives and damaged more than 20,000 houses, the sources added.
In the worst-hit Dhemaji district, the water level of the Jiadhol had begun to subside though it was still flowing above the danger level. Road and rail communication were still disrupted.
The situation in Morigaon had improved marginally, but road communication remained disrupted in several places.
In Goalpara district, the situation was grim with vast areas inundated and roads still under water.
In Majuli, the world's largest river island, the water level, however, was receding, though communication remained disrupted.
The situation has also improved in the districts of Nagao Barpeta, Nalbari, Darrang, Kamrup and Tinsukia.
