Shahnawaz demands 'white paper' on all riots in India

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

Union Civil Aviation Minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain has urged the central government to bring out a 'white paper' on all communal riots in India so far.

Hussain said in Patna on Thursday that such a 'white paper' would expose the real face of the Congress, which he accused of politicising the situation in Gujarat.

According to him, some 37,000 communal riots had taken place in the country during Congress rule. "The opposition has no moral right to demand [Chief Minister Narendra] Modi's resignation," he said.

He said the opposition ought to have been praising the National Democratic Alliance government for having restricted the violence to Gujarat, instead of demanding Modi's head.

Hussain pointed out that the opposition parties were yet to make any contribution towards relief in Gujarat, though they have been talking a lot about the situation there.
