The Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday accused the Congress government in Punjab of launching a political vendetta in the guise of fighting corruption.
The SAD questioned the need to restrict the one-man commission's investigation to the Prakash Singh Badal government alone.
"We welcome any move to bring about transparency in public life and eliminate corruption, but the Congress government's decision smacks of political vendetta," finance minister in the Badal government Capt Kanwaljit Singh told rediff.com.
If Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh was really serious about eliminating corruption, the commission should to go into the charges of corruption against the previous Congress government as well, he said.
The previous Congress government had three chief ministers - Beant Singh, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Harcharan Singh Brar.
He criticized the Congress government for linking disgraced chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission Rajinder Pal Singh Sidhu with Badal.
Sidhu was a nominee of former Congress chief minister Harcharan Singh Brar and not Badal, he pointed out.
