India reacts sharply to Pak attempts
to disrupt fencing work on IB

Reacting to attempts by Pakistan to disrupt fencing work on the international border in Jammu area by detonating explosives, India on Thursday asserted that it was determined to take necessary action to put an end to such interference.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Nirupama Rao said this morning some explosive devices were detonated in the Raghubir Singh Pura area of Jammu, where work is on to erect a fence on the Indian side of the international border.

''Clearly, this is yet another attempt by Pakistan to disrupt this fencing work, which is an effective mechanism against cross-border infiltration of terrorists, smugglers and other illegal entrants,'' she said.

She said ''this effort of the military regime in Pakistan to raise concern and retard the fencing work will fail just as surely as other such efforts have failed in the past."

''Government of India remains determined to take necessary action to put an end to such interference," she added.
