One killed, three injured in police firing in Ahmedabad

One person was killed and three injured when police opened fire to disperse violent mobs in Vejalpur police station area of Ahmedabad early on Tuesday morning.

A total of 35 rounds were fired and 22 teargas shells were lobbed to disperse the mob, which attacked the adjoining minority localities in that area, the police said.

The mob pelted stones and attacked the residences in the curfew bound area after midnight in which many were injured, prompting the police to open fire, resulting in death of one person.

Police also lobbed 14 teargas shells in Nagoriwad locality of Shahpur area to scare away stone pelting crowds late on Monday night, they said.

A passing train was subjected to stone pelting by a mob in Asarwa locality of Madhupura area.

Meanwhile, curfew continued in Dariapur police station area on the third day on Tuesday after violence on Saturday killed three people.
