MIM alleges 'ethnic cleansing' of Muslims in Gujarat

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, which had sent a four-member team to the riot-hit areas of Gujarat, has appealed to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to personally visit or send a study team of Telugu Desam Party to make an on-the-spot assessment of the 'ethnic cleansing' of Muslims by the BJP government in that state.

Speaking to mediapersons in Hyderabad on Sunday night, MIM floor leader Asaduddin Owaisi, who led the team to the relief camps and violence-hit areas of Ahmedabad and other places, said Naidu should visit Gujarat to see the 'unspeakable atrocities committed on Muslims by Sangh Parivar, police and BJP government there'.

He said his party has been warning Naidu against supporting the communal forces right from 1998. "But he did not heed and this is the result of sustaining communal forces in power," he said.

Owaisi said that he has brought more than 200 photographs and a CD containing pictures of the violence.

"The MIM will present these photographs and CD to Chief Minister Naidu so that he can have an idea of what happened in Gujarat," he said.

He held both Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee 'equally responsible' for the communal carnage in Gujarat.

"Both of them should be removed from power," he said. "What the Prime Minister said in Goa public meeting has exposed his true face", he added.
