Frank Pallone urges Pak to
extradite Omar Sheikh

Congressman Frank Pallone has said that Pakistan, under pressure from the Inter-Services Intelligence, may refuse to extradite Ahmad Omar Sheikh, accused in the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, to stand trial in the United States.

"From what I understand, Pakistani officials may be reluctant to extradite Sheikh due to ISI's influence," Pallone wrote in a letter addressed to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and urged that Sheikh be extradited immediately after his trial in Pakistan.

Pallone's demand, which comes a day before Sheikh is scheduled to stand trial in Pakistan for Pearl's murder, follows reports referring to Pak Interior Minister Moinhuddin Haider saying that Sheikh would have to complete his sentence in Pakistan before his extradition to the US.

"I am also concerned by Haider's statements because they may be based on pressure from the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence Agency," Pallone wrote.
