LTTE chief Prabhakaran to address
first press conference in 10 years

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam chief V Prabhakaran will meet the international and domestic media for the first time in over a decade at a press conference in the town of Kilinochchi in northern Sri Lanka on April 10.

He would discuss "current political developments and associated issues," a LTTE press release said on Wednesday night.

He would be assisted by LTTE's chief negotiator and political advisor Anton Balasingham, it said.

"Among other matters, he will address issues related to the ongoing Norwegian peace initiative in Sri Lanka," the organisation said.

Balasingham had said in a recent interview that Prabhakaran would like to personally clarify matters relating to the peace process, the ongoing indefinite truce with the government and allegations that have shown the movement in a poor light.

"He feels that by meeting the press at this point of time, he can clear the air and take the peace process forward," Balasingham had said.
