Musharraf leaves to meet
Karzai in Afghanistan

In a surprise development, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday left for Afghanistan to meet Afghan interim prime minister Hamid Karzai.

This is Musharraf's first visit to Afghanistan after he grabbed power in Pakistan in a bloodless coup in 1999.

He is likely to return to Islamabad in the afternoon.

"The visit is on the invitation of chairman Hamid Karzai. He will be back this afternoon," government spokesman Anwar Mahmood said.
