Express reporter was a
last-minute inclusion

It was only at the last minute that Sanjiv Sinha, a reporter with The Indian Express, was included in the list of journalists who were to accompany Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia to Kanpur.

The plane carrying Scindia, his staff and the journalists crashed sometime in the afternoon on Sunday in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh killing them all.

Sinha, according to a release from the newspaper, had joined duty only on Saturday after being away on a short medical leave.

Ironically, it was in the vicinity of Kanpur where Sinha, 35, began his career by reporting the plight of Behmai widows.

Survived by his parents and an elder brother, Sinha, almost with a sense of premonition, had told his colleagues on Saturday about his illness. "Too many bad things happen at the same time," he had said.
