26 Orissa families reconvert to Hinduism

Imran Khan in Bhubaneswar

About 113 converted Christians belonging to 26 families returned to Hinduism in Rourkela, Orissa, on Sunday.

"All the members of the 26 families willingly returned to the Hindu fold," the Vishwa Hindu Parishad organising secretary of Rourkela, Makru Mishra, said on Monday.

Mishra said that they returned to Hinduism at a function of "self-sanctification" organised by the VHP.

This was the third time in the last one year that the VHP had succeeded in its campaign to convince converted Christian families to return to Hinduism in Rourkela.

According to the VHP leader, those families who returned to the Hindu fold were residents of the Lahunipada, Bonai, Lathikata and Gurundia areas of Sundargarh district.
