Twenty-four Pakistani prisoners held in three prisons of Punjab were repatriated to Pakistan through the Wagah border in Friday.
The repatriation exercise was jointly supervised by the Border Security Force and the Pakistan Rangers.
Barring three, all the other prisoners hailed from the Punjab province of Pakistan.
The prisoners were brought from jails in Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Ferozepur by the Punjab police and handed over to the BSF, who later handed them over to the Rangers on the zero line.
The judicial sentence of these prisoners ranged from two to five years, and all of them had served their jail terms.
While some had been booked under the Passport Act, others were apprehended at the Attari railway station with fake Indian currency notes.
However, the majority of the prisoners were routine border trespassers, who had been apprehended by the BSF along the Punjab border.
The identity of one of the prisoners could not be established as he was deaf and dumb.
All the prisoners were overjoyed to go back.
For the BSF, local Commandant B L Wadhwa supervised the repatriation, and for the Rangers, Lt Col Chengez Wali Khan was in charge.
