Vajpayee to visit quake-hit Kutch

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will pay a two-day visit to the quake-hit Kutch district in Gujarat from June three.

The prime minister is scheduled to take stock of the measures taken by the state government for rehabilitation and resettlement of the people hit by the devastating January 26 earthquake, official sources said in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

Vajpayee would also tour some of the worst affected talukas in the region, the sources said.

Security has been tightened in the district in view of the proposed visit, they added.

An armed Laskhar-e-Tayiba militant was arrested on May 27 from the district.
