A chargesheet was filed on Monday against Independent Member of Parliament from Purnea, Pappu Yadav, in a case related to threatening Dalit Rashtriya Janata Dal legislator, Bhupendra Rishideo.
The chargesheet came at the time when there are rumours here that Pappu may be inducted into the Union Cabinet in the next expansion.
Rishideo had in March last lodged a case accusing Pappu and his associates of intimidating and forcing him to support the rebel and now expelled RJD leader, Ranjan Prasad Yadav.
The opposition charged that swift investigations and submission of the chargesheet by the police had been done only to appease political masters.
As per the first information report lodged on March 28, Pappu, along with some gunmen went to the residence of Rishideo late at night and persuaded him to visit the house of Ranjan Yadav.
On their refusal, Pappu reportedly threatened Rishideo and left his flat, stating that he would visit him again, an hour later.
In the meantime the MLA informed party chief Laloo Yadav and the Kotwali police about the incident and a case was registered against Pappu.
The police raided the MP's Patna residence that night and he was kept under house arrest and later into custody in the morning. He was produced before the court of the chief judicial magistrate, who later sent him to jail.
On March 29, Rishideo narrated the incident in the state assembly.
Incidentally, some other Dalit MLAs belonging to the RJD, including Bhagwatia Devi, made similar charges against Pappu.
Pappu has not been granted bail in the case and is at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi.
Known for his muslce power, he is also accused in the case of the murder of Communist Party of India-Marxists MLA, Ajit Sarkar and the additional district and sessions judge on Monday issued a second showcause notice to the superintendent of Beur central jail for disobeying a court order in the Ajit Sarkar murder case.
He asked the superintendent to reply on the condition of Pappu Yadav.
The superintendent has been asked to reply on the date on which he would be able to produce the accused.
For six months, the Ajit Sarkar murder case trial has not begun, due to failure of the superintendent to produce the accused, despite several reminders by the court.
In accordance with a Supreme Court order, the regular bail of Pappu Yadav was cancelled by the court on April 10.
