Final act of deceit by BJP: Samata Party

An angry Samata Party on Monday described as "the final act of deceit" the Bharatiya Janata Party statement that a whip was issued to its MLAs in Manipur to vote in favour of the confidence motion.

The three-month-old Samata Party-led People's Front government in Manipur was voted out on Monday after it lost a confidence motion.

"The statement of the BJP general secretary Narendra Modi in Mussoorie that a whip was issued and that the BJP's central leaders were in constant touch with the Samata Party and the party's Manipur unit is truly amazing," Samata spokesman Shambhu Srivastava said.

He said the MLAs who should have received the three-line whip did not receive it. "We have checked from the lobby of the assembly building in Manipur. We were told that no whip was issued," he said.

Srivastava said BJP minister Bhubon Singh had spoken in the assembly pleading for support to the confidence vote. "Had the whip been issued there was no need for such an appeal," he said.

"This perhaps is the final act of deceit by the BJP in the ongoing Manipur drama," he added.
