Panja appraises Fernandes
on the latest in Trinamul

The National Democratic Alliance convenor George Fernandes on Tuesday night held talks with dissident Trinamul Congress leader Ajit Panja.

"George Fernandes spoke to me on the telephone. I informed him of the latest situation (in Trinamul),'' Panja told PTI.

In a statement in Patna on Monday, Fernandes had said the NDA would welcome Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee if she desired to return to the coalition.

While blaming Mamata for Trinamul's debacle in the assembly elections, Panja said the party's power structure must be decentralised.

Regretting Mamata's recent tirades against the Centre, the Election Commission and the West Bengal government, Panja said: ''As Trinamul's West Bengal unit chief, I apologise to the prime minister, the CEC and the chief minister."
