No beef in McDonald's French fries: BMC

The Food and Drug Administration and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Tuesday confirmed that no beef tallow was being used by McDonald's in processing its French fries.

Both the FDA and the BMC conducted independent tests after a controversy broke out about the use of beef tallow by McDonald's.

Angry demonstrators damaged some of the fast food chain's outlets in Bombay and Thane on May 4.

BMC health officer Alka Karande said the samples were taken from all eight outlets of McDonald's in Bombay on May 8 and put through a series of tests at the Municipal Laboratory.

''We have received reports of ten samples, out of which six were tested by the FDA and the rest by us'', Karande said.
