The Assembly Elections 2001: Pondicherry

Cong-TMC-AIADMK coalition likely in Pondy

With the All India Anna DMK chief J Jayalalitha offering support to the Congress-Tamil Maanila Congress combine in Pondicherry, all eyes are now focused on the Union Territory where AIADMK's three members hold the key to the next government.

Pradesh Congress Committee chief V Narayanasamy told newsmen that All India Congress Committee emissaries Ghulam Nabi Azad and Motilal Vora would reach Pondicherry in the next couple days to oversee the election of the Congress Legislature Party leader.

In the 30-member assembly, the Congress has 11 legislators and its ally TMC two.

Narayanasamy said he, along with Chief Minister P Shanmugham and other leaders, called on TMC leader G K Moopanar in Madras on Monday and discussed the possibility of joining hands with the AIADMK.

He expressed the hope that they would have no difficulty in forming a coalition government.
