AGP-BJP alliance to continue in Assam: Mahanta

The Asom Gana Parishad president and outgoing Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Tuesday said his party's alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party would continue as stated recently by the BJP president Jana Krishnamurthy in New Delhi.

Mahanta's statement came in the wake of BJP state unit secretary Sanjib Goswami's comments on Monday that time had come for his party to review its partnership with the AGP following the coalition's dismal performance in the assembly polls.

Stating that "Goswami's statement is the opinion of an individual and not of the party," Mahanta told a press conference at the party headquarters in Guwahati: "Our association will continue as asserted by the BJP national president."
