The Assembly Elections 2001: Tamil Nadu

Re-polling held in Cuddalore booth

Re-polling was held in one of the booths falling under Cuddalore assembly segment on Monday, as the electronic voting machine failed to give the total number of votes polled and other details when counting was taken up on Sunday, official sources said.

The booth record showed that 499 voters had cast their votes in booth No 87. Technical experts tried to operate the machine, but it failed to give the results, following which re-polling was ordered by the Election Commission.

With DMK candidate Ela Pugazhendi leading over his Tamil Maanila Congress rival, P R S Venkatesan, by just 32 votes, the votes cast in the booth will be crucial for the final result in the constituency.
