The Assembly Elections 2001: Pondicherry

Janakiraman wins in Pondy

Former chief minister and DMK candidate R V Janakiraman defeated Dr J Nannan (AIADMK) by 1,941 votes in Nellithope.

Annibal Kennedy (DMK) was declared elected by a margin of over 2180 votes from Bussy constituency over his nearest AIADMK rival Babu Ansardeen in the assembly elections, on Sunday.

With this, DMK retained its seat.

Malladi Krishna Rao (Independent) was declared elected from Yanam constituency by a margin of 2,978 votes over his nearest Bharatiya Janata Party rival Gollapalli Gangadhara Pratap.
