Trinamul, Left claim victory in WB

The two main contenders in West Bengal -- the Trinamul Congress led by Mamata Banerjee and the CPM-led Left Front -- have both expressed confidence that the verdict in the assembly election, polling for which was held on Thursday, would go in their favour.

"We are coming to power despite large-scale rigging by the CPI-M. Just wait for a day and you will see the result. It will be a victory for the people," Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee said.

Trinamul's policy-making body chairman Pankaj Banerjee predicted that his party would get 160-165 seats.

The Left Front's Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee too sounded confident. "We will get a comfortable majority," he said.

CPI-M state secretary and politburo member Anil Biswas said the Left Front would get more seats than projected by the exit poll.
