MPs bring Rs 300 million to
Gujarat for quake relief

An eight-member team of Rajya Sabha MPs has arrived in Gujarat for a three-day tour of the quake-affected areas.

The team is carrying with it Rs 300 million to be distributed as aid. The money was raised from MPs' constituency development fund.

Led by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Dr Najma Heptulla, the team on Thursday visited Dhrang and Lodai villages, the epicentre of the devastating January 26 earthquake.

They held meetings with NGOs and local officers and collected information about the rehabilitation work undertaken by the government.

Later, talking to newsmen, Heptulla said that they intended to use the fund to rebuild schools and medical centres and set up work centres for women engaged in embroidary and other crafts in villages.
