Brisk voting in Pondicherry

Polling began in Pondicherry at 7 am on Thursday for the 30-member territorial assembly under tight security.

Reports said brisk voting took place in almost all constituencies early in the morning.

There are 193 candidates in fray and the polls would decide the fate of such stalwarts as former chief ministers -- R V Janakiraman (DMK), V Vaithialingam and S Ramasamy (Congress) and D Ramachandran (AIADMK).

As requested by the territorial administration, the Centre had provided it with six companies of Central Reserve Police Force.

The fight in the Union territory is between three fronts -- one led by the DMK and the other two by the AIADMK and the Congress.
