13 killed in bus mishap near Guna

At least 13 people were killed and 52 others, including Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's nephew and Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Anup Mishra's niece and her husband, were injured on Wednesday when the bus carrying them overturned, police said.

The mishap occurred near Bilonia village about four km from Guna on the Agra-Bombay national highway, they said.

The injured were treated at a district hospital, the police said.

Meanwhile, 11 persons were killed and four others injured when their jeep got crushed between two speeding trucks near Mevad village on the Mehsana highway on Wednesday, police said.

They said the jeep, carrying 15 persons, was trying to overtake a stone-laden truck when another truck came from behind, trapping the jeep in the middle.

While nine persons died on the spot, two succumbed in a local hospital in Mehsana, police said, adding that the injured have been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad.

The victims were on their way from Ahmedabad to Rajasthan, the police added. PTI
