Defence probe panels to
submit reports this month

The Defence Ministry probe regarding the role of civilian officials in the Tehelka scam has been extended, while the Army Court of Inquiry is likely to give its report within a week.

Though the government extended the term of the one-man Bagai inquiry committee looking into actions by civilian Defence Ministry officials by a month to May 20, ministry officials said the committee was assessing evidence. It would submit its report to Union Defence Minister Jaswant Singh by May 20, officials said.

The committee headed by R P Bagai, joint secretary and chief vigilance officer of the Defence Ministry, has taken depositions of three civilian officials who figured in the Tehelka videotapes.

The Army Court of Inquiry, which started work a month before the Defence Ministry probe, has almost completed its deliberations and will submit its findings to the Army chief within a week, according to army sources.
