Serial killer of women held in Orissa

Imran Khan in Bhubaneswar

The Orissa police arrested a serial killer of women in Balasore on Wednesday.

Thirty-five-year-old Bhagirathi Giri, who was held on charges of killing several women, was absconding for five years, a police official said.

He is said to have killed six women.

The official in-charge of Balasore Sadar police station said that Giri lured his victims with a promise to marry them.

"Giri used to lure minors from tribal-dominated pockets. After the marriage ritual, he used to kill them," he said.

Though Giri confessed to killing four women after marrying them, the police official said that he is believed to have married 14 women and killed most of them.

Police suspect that Giri is insane.
