Padmanabhan, Mishra discuss CDS post

The Chief of the Army Staff General S Padmanabhan on Wednesday held an over two-hour-long meeting with the National Security Advisor Brajesh Mishra as part of stepped up efforts to lay the groundwork for establishing the post of Chief of Defence Staff, official sources said.

The meeting, the sources added, was followed up by a marathon meeting of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chaired by Naval chief Admiral Sushil Kumar.

The meeting, which was attended by the other two services chiefs, is understood to have discussed measures to set up a combined services procurement board and other major recommendations of the Group of Ministers on 'management of defence.'

These meetings assume significance in the wake of directions by Defence Minister Jaswant Singh to the three services to go ahead with preparatory work for establishing the post of Chief of Defence Staff.
