Fernandes admits to being aware of Jain's
attempts to influence defence deals

Former defence minister George Fernandes, who resigned in the wake of expose of fictitious defence deals by Tehelka.com, has admitted that he knew about Samata Party ex-treasurer R K Jain 'trying to get involved' in defence-related deals but said he never allowed Jain to come near him with such proposals.

"I won't say I had no idea of his trying to get himself involved. That will be wrong. But I have never ever allowed him to come anywhere near me with any of his business propositions or any of his concerns," Fernandes told Star News.

Stating that his gates were always kept open, he said every morning around 100 or more people, including people who wanted 'to gain entry as suppliers to defence ministry', gathered at his residence with wide ranging grievances.
