Hijacker Hashim Qureshi chargesheeted

The challan was filed before the court of additional district and sessions judge, Srinagar, charging Qureshi with burning the Indian Airlines Fokker Friendship plane Ganga after hatching a criminal conspiracy.

Qureshi was also charged with kidnapping and robbery under the Enemy Ordinance Act.

The judge ordered extension of his remand till March 20 when proceedings in the case will begin.

Qureshi was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi on December 29 soon after he arrived from Copenhegan on his way to Nepal.

Qureshi, who was brought to the court amid tight security, told reporters that he was being denied justice as "I am a Kashmiri and want independence from both India and Pakistan".

Citing the release of two Sikhs who had hijacked an Indian Airlines plane and who underwent jail terms in Pakistan within 24 hours of their arrival in India, Qureshi said he was convicted in Pakistan for being an "Indian agent" and in India "I am now tried for being a Pakistani agent".

Qureshi was founding father of the JKLF but later formed his own Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Liberation Party.
