Three of family gunned down in Jammu

Three members of a Hindu family were gunned down late last night by militants in village Dharamkote near Banihal in Jammu region, senior police officers told rediff.com.

Sources said militants intruded into the house and opened fire on the inmates, killing the house-owner, his wife and a child. Senior police officers visited the village this morning.

Meanwhile, two members of the Central Reserve Police Force were wounded in a grenade explosion at Nowhatta in downtown Srinagar. The injured were immediately rushed to hospital.

Last evening, in the same locality, several houses were damaged in a devastating fire which started after militants attacked the nearby company headquarters of 63 Battalion, BSF. However, no one was injured. Immediately after the explosion several houses caught fire and firemen had a difficult in controlling the blaze. Security in the area has been further beefed up.
