Builder of Ahmedabad's Shikhar apartment arrested

Police on Saturday arrested Satish Nihalchand Shah, the 'wanted' builder of multi-storeyed Shikhar apartment in Ahmedabad, which collapsed in the January 26 earthquake leaving 98 dead and several injured.

Shah, against whom detention order under Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act was issued by police commissioner P C Pande in February, was arrested and brought to the police station at Satellite Road area.

Six other builders were arrested on Friday in connection with the collapse of four other multi-storeyed buildings in the quake in the city which left 26 people dead, police said.

The builders have been arrested on various criminal charges under provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

PASA detention orders have also been passed against many of them. They have also been booked for violation of Gujarat Ownership Flats Act, police added.
