Pondicherry DMK MLAs arrested

Former Pondicherry chief minister R V Janakiraman, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament C P Thirunavukkarasu, and some Dravida Munnetra Kazhgam legislators were among those arrested for taking out a procession on Saturday protesting against the arrest of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and main thoroughfares and streets wore a deserted look following a bandh call given by DMK in Pondicherry. Local and inter state bus services remained suspended.

Police personnel were deployed in strength at vantage points to check any untoward incident. Meanwhile, Pondicherry Chief Minister P Shanmugham said that those indulging in violence would be severely dealt with.
