Superintendent of Police Debashish Roy said villagers on Tuesday night saw nine bodies floating in the Ganga at Panchanandapur and informed the local police.
Police recovered five of the bodies from the casuarina grove along the river bank. The other four bodies could have floated further ahead, Roy said.
The bodies were those of three men aged 32, 35 and 45 years, a woman aged 30 and a 10-year old girl, police said.
They were identified as residents of Palashgachchi village in Jharkhand.
Police and para-military forces had been scouring the river since Wednesday morning for the bodies. The rescue operations were supervised by District Magistrate Ajit Ranjan Bardhan and Roy from a launch of the state irrigation department.
Relatives of those missing thronged the river bank, police said.
Earlier on Saturday, the bodies of two children were recovered, while two others were declared brought dead at a local hospital.
The heavily laden boat set sail from Palashgachchi village under Rajmahal police station in Jharkhand for the weekly market at Mathurapur.
