NDA constituents approve
Vajpayee's stand at summit

The National Democratic Alliance constituents on Wednesday unanimously backed Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 'firm stand' on the Kashmir issue at the Agra Summit with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and asked the government to take all steps to check the possibility of escalation of terrorist violence in the wake of the deadlock.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan told reporters after a two-hour meeting of the alliance constituents at the Prime Minister's residence that the NDA leaders expressed the view that Vajpayee had firmly put across India's view points at the summit.

He said they congratulated the prime minister for his all out efforts to safeguard national interests.

Vajpayee is to make a statement in Parliament on the Agra Summit on the opening day of the Monsoon Session on July 23.

Mahajan said Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani assured the alliance partners that every step would be taken to ensure law and order and the government would not leave any stone unturned in this regard.

Replying to questions, he said no dissenting voice regarding Vajpayee's acceptance of Musharraf's invitation to visit Pakistan was raised at the NDA meeting attended by 20 leaders representing the constituents.

Mahajan said Vajpayee gave a detailed account of his talks with Musharraf.
