Manipur students pay tributes to martyrs

About 3,000 students on Thursday defied prohibitory orders, marched in a procession and paid tributes to 15 persons killed so far in police action during the ongoing anti-ceasefire agitation in Manipur.

Official sources said the students - from 11 schools from Kongba side in Imphal - went to Kekrupat, where those killed in police firing have been cremated, and paid floral tributes.

They said people took out rallies at different places, including Nongmeibung and Kongba areas, while sit-in protests were reported from several parts of the state.

Relay hunger strike by hundreds of men and women also continued at Yaiskul Moirangkhom area.

The All Manipur Colleges Joint Action Committee in a statement said thousands of students would organise silent rallies in the border areas of the state from July 18.
