Jaya ally comes out in Karunanidhi's support

The Pattali Makkal Kacchi on Thursday alleged that the 'flyover' case was a 'frame-up' to wreak vengeance on a few persons and endorsed the Centre's call for action against police officials involved in 'excesses' during the arrest of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi.

The PMK is an ally of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

The PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss said facts now being revealed in the courts showed that the crime branch had allegedly 'fabricated' the case despite 'none of the accused in the case having gained pecuniary advantage from the construction of flyovers'.

"What was the need to arrest Karunanidhi when he had no role in drafting the project plan and its implementation?" he asked.

He said that the former Tamil Nadu chief minister's arrest was an 'illegal and a brazen violation of human rights'.

Ramadoss, the only leader from the AIADMK front to call on Karunanidhi at the central prison said despite the court's direction to lodge Karunanidhi's son and City Mayor M K Stalin in Madras prison, he was taken to Madurai jail.

He criticised the Madras Corporation Commissioner J T Acharyalu for filing a case without consulting advocates and higher officials.
