3000 DMK workers on fast
in Madurai jail

More than 3,000 remand prisoners belonging to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Tuesday went on a fast in the Madurai central jail demanding immediate release of party chief M Karunanidhi, the police said.

A total of 3,008 DMK men, who were taken into custody in the wake of Karunanidhi's arrest on Saturday, were on fast since this morning, the police added.

Meanwhile, nearly 50 pro-DMK lawyers shouted slogans in front of the Madurai court complex demanding the release of Karunanidhi. They also condemned the arrest of Union Ministers Murasoli Maran and T R Baalu.

In a counter protest, nearly 40 advocates belonging to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam raised slogans seeking the re-arrest of Union Ministers Murasoli Maran and T R Baalu.
