Form national relief committee, says Rabi Ray

Imran Khan in Bhubaneswar

In a bid to overcome the devastating fallout of the Gujarat earthquake, Former Lok Sabha Speaker Rabi Ray has suggested that Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee form a 'National Relief Committee' immediately to mobilise resources.

"The formation of the committee will help mitigate the sufferings of the people of Gujarat," he said.

The committee should comprise of people from all political parties and walks of life to give it a national character, he suggested.

"I am in touch with several people and will request the central government to form the committee at the earliest," he said.

Ray said the havoc caused by the earthquake is a challenge for all Indians to work together. Proper relief and rehabilitation will go a long way in restoring normalcy in Gujarat, he said.
