Patients from Bhuj admitted to
Bombay, Pune hospitals

Nidhi Taparia in Bombay

The first batch of seriously injured patients from earthquake-hit Bhuj in Gujarat has been admitted to hospitals in Bombay and Pune.

Hinduja Hospital has admitted a patient with multiple fractures, but three floors have been emptied to prepare for more. Dr Harish, who is on standby, said 20-25 doctors are ready to deal with patients who will come in on Sunday or Monday morning.

"We have readied all equipment, along with emergency operation rooms."

Other hospitals to which patients are likely to be admitted include Hiravati, Lilavati, Sion and Jaslok.

Twentynine patients were admitted to Sassoon Hospital on Saturday night.

Sister Jula, who was on duty on Sunday, said that they have been admitted to the orthopedic ward "with multiple fractures and major head injuries. There was only one case of amputation. No patient is serious."

The patients, according to her, were flown in along with a few hundred patients, to hospitals in the city.

The entire team of doctors has been working round-the-clock.

At the Command Hospital in Pune, 130 patients have been admitted, out of which three have died. More patients are expected on Sunday night from Bhuj. The hospital said they were prepared for more.
