Hizb commander's house destroyed in fire

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Hizbul Mujaheedin commander Abdul Majeed Dar's house in northern Baramulla was Tuesday destroyed in a fire. Dar's family, sources said, is safe.

Dar had declared a unilateral ceasefire
in July last year and set the peace process in Jammu and Kashmir rolling. The ceasefire was later withdrawn by the Hizb supreme commander Syed Salahuddin.

Police sources said Dar's two-storeyed house was completely destroyed in the blaze.

In another incident, a powerful improvised explosive device exploded near village Nihalpora Pattan on the Srinagar-Barramullah highway Tuesday afternoon without causing any damage.

Militants shot at and critically wounded pro-India Awami League general secretary Mohammad Yussuf Parray at village Nadihal in northern Barramulla district in a late evening raid.
