Sonia takes a dip at the Kumbh Mela

Sharat Pradhan in Allahabad

After much speculation about her visit to Kumbh Mela, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, took a dip on the banks of Sangam Monday afternoon.

Dressed in red sari, she took a motorboat to the site, reached the Sangam and took the dip and left in ten minutes.

Earlier in the morning, she reached Anand Bhavan, the ancestral house of Jawaharlal Nehru, from where she drove straight to Sangam at Kumbh Nagari.

She then performed puja with the help of Hindu priests. Accompanying her were senior Congress leaders Narayan Dutt Tiwari, M L Fotedar and Anil Shastri, the Congress spokesperson. Among the Congress leaders present from Uttar Pradesh were Prakash Jaiswal, UPCC president and Pramod Tiwari, the leader of the UP legislature party.
