JKLF chief hails govt's peace initiative

Pakistan-based chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Amanullah Khan has welcomed the recent steps by New Delhi and Islamabad regarding J&K and said the proposed visit by a Hurriyat delegation to Pakistan could help 'untangle' the vexed issue.

"India and Pakistan do not accept it publicly, but both seem to have realised that the Kashmir issue remaining hanging in the balance can well result in complete destruction of both the countries or at least continue to eat into their economic and other vitals," Khan said in a statement faxed to PTI.

He said the recent steps by India and Pakistan regarding Kashmir 'clearly reflect that sanity has started subjugating intransigence, short-sightedness and selfishness'.

Referring to the proposed visit by a five-member Hurriyat Conference delegation to Pakistan for talks with the establishment and militant leaders there, the Muzzafarabad-based JKLF chairman said, "It can prove the beginning of serious efforts to untangle the Kashmir imbroglio."

Khan said, "A just and durable solution to the (Kashmir) problem can herald the dawn of a peaceful, respectable and prosperous future for India, Pakistan and Kashmir."

JKLF, under the leadership of Khan, was the first group to launch militancy in J&K in 1988.
