10 rebels killed in Jharkhand

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - At least 10 Leftist militants and one paramilitary soldier were killed in a clash between police and rebels in Jharkhand, UNI reported on Monday.

The agency quoted a police spokesman as saying that six villagers were injured in the incident which occurred on Sunday at Semri Banjari village in Garwha district, 45 km from the state capital, Ranchi.

The militants belonged to the banned People's War Group.

In recent months, the PWG has been involved in a bloody struggle with a rival Marxist militant group in the eastern state of Bihar, out of which Jharkhand was carved out last November.
