Dr Jain dropped from
BJP national executive

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Dr J K Jain, the former member of Parliament and chairman of Jain TV was dropped from the Bharatiya Janata Party national executive on Wednesday night.

In a letter, circulated to the press, BJP president Bangaru Laxman told Dr Jain: "You were kind enough to call on me on Tuesday. I had advised you not to precipitate any action as matters could be discussed and a solution found. And you said that you would think it over."

"But today, I am given to understand that you have sent a legal notice to the respected Prime Minister of India, A B Vajpayee. I consider this as a step that is not to be taken even by a primary member of a party let alone by a member of the national executive," he said in the letter.

The rift between Dr J K Jain and Principal Secretary Brajesh Mishra came out open when the former accused Mishra of maligning his name by spreading rumours that he is an ISI agent.

Dr Jain had then gone around Parliament with a placard saying Am I an ISI agent? hung around his neck.

"I regret to inform you that you will no longer by a member of the national executive of the party and hence the invitation to you to attend the national executive on January 4 and 5 stands withdrawn with immediate affect," Laxman wrote.

In response, Jain wrote back saying: "Even though it is the Party President's power to keep a nominated member in the National Executive, but when such powers are exercised for a cause, and the cause is the desire of a Member of the National Executive to vindicate his honour by recourse to a Court of Law, the type of notice you have sent to me through your above referred communication, amounts to contempt of the judicial process."
